An Expofition upon the Book of Jo a. .Vetf.7. which was mallows, and Juniper roots; fecondly, their lodging, which was inchits, and caves, and rocks ; thirdly, their fhelter, whichwas among the nettles, and the baffles. Thence obferve ; The gaitoffin, arefadandmiferable, even in this prefent life. Sinners receive but íll fare from thehand of fin, and that lod- ges and proteus them as ill, as it feeds them. Here's a wicked generation, how are they fed? have they a table fpread? are they ferved with the bell ? they are fed withmallows, and Juni- per roots, that is the cheere fin makes for them ; yea wickedneffe will be asgravell in their teeth, and as poyfon in. their bowel's. I grant many finners are full fed, they have liberal!, large, and plentiful! tables, but in the iffue fin will feed them all with farre worfe fare thenmallows, and Juniper roots, and molt of the fer- vents offinare no better provided for now : fin ufually keepes but avery poore houfe; and while men make ( from which the Apoftle dehorts, Rom. 13. 14.) provifion for the flefh, to full- fill the lofts thereof, their lofts are makingvery lamentable pro., vifion for them. If we look upon the greareft Number ofmen in the world, that live miferably, we fhall find they are fuch as live wickedly. Againe, how did thefe men lodge ? what chambers and beds did fin prepare for them ? Nothing but dills, and holes, and rocks. Where did they meet and gather together? among the bufhes, and the nettles; what doe they there? they bray like ailes, and vex themfelves like wild ailes that have no graffe. And iffinmake man thus miferable in this life, oh what will fin doe in the life to come 1 Then it will drive the wicked into the. wildernefe indeed, into clifts, and holes, and rocks indeed: and whereas now fin flings them like nettles it will hereafter fling them like fcorpions ; the little finger of fin, in the next life, will beheavier then the loins of it in this; that is,God who is the a- venger
