That Chrill by enlivening and fafhioningus according to his own image, his purpofe was not to raife a feed to him felt difperfedly, and fcatteringly , but to gather together in one the children of God, &c.John 11.58. yea,and to bringall to one head by himfelf, Eph.1. i o. So thát the Church militant and triumphant, though as far re dillant as earth and heaven, yet they makebutone in Jefus Chrill, Ephcf. 2. 21, 22. ueft. what are tle bonds of this my .fticál union between Chrill,arid :u? Anfw. The quickning Spirit on his part , which being in him as the Head, is thence diffufed to the fpiritual animation ofall his members : and faith on our part , which is the prime aél of life wrought in thofe who are capable of underfianding by the fame fpicit : Sec both proved in thcfe Texts , John6.63. 1 Cor.6. r7. and 15.45. Phil. 2.1. Rom.8.9. 1 fohn 3. 24. and4.13. Gal. 2. 20. and 5. 5. and 3. lr Ephef. 3. 17. Both of which are of fo high a nature, that none could poifiible by fuch li atures knit up fo admirable a body , but he that was God Almighty. As for Faith, its the operation of God , C.'ol. z. 12. wrought by the fame power that raifed Chrifi from the dead , 2 7 hef. Hence Paul prays , Ephef. a. r9, &C. It was fit alfo that this Head fhould be of the fame nature of the body that is knit to it. Hence, Ephef. 5. 30. John 6.5 3, 56. fhewing that by this myftical and fupernatural union , we are as truely conjoyned with him, asthe meat and drink we receive, when its converted into our ovn fubftance. Secondly, that this conjun&ion is immediately made with this humane nature. Thirdly, that Chrill crucified bath by his death made his Belli broken , and blood poured out for us , to be fit food for the fpiritual nourifbment of our fouls, and the very well-fpring from whence by the power of his God-head,all life,and grace is derived to us:Hence,Heb.r0.19,20 pelf. what are we further to confider in Chrill ? Anfw. That as in things concerning God, the maine execution of our Saviours Prieflhood doth confifl : fo in things concerning man , he exercifeth both his Prophetical office, whereby he opens the Will of his Father to us, and his Kingly, whereby he rules and protefts us. As in the New Teftament, Prophets and Apoftles were a different degree from ordinary Parlors and Teachers, who received not their doetrine by immediate infpiration from hea- ven, Eph.4.1 r. 2 `Per. 1.21. Hence, Heb.1.1. God hath fpoken to us by his Sonne, called therefore the Apofile as well asthe High-`Priefl of our proellion., Heb.3.1,2. and therefore in the execution of his prophetical office he is in more peculiar manner likned to Mofes , Deur. 18. 15, &c.
