353 The Sublap[ dollrine robbethnot God reafon is, Becaufewhen God commandeth any thing which is good, juft and holy, he trulyand unfeignedly liketh and loveth fuch aeons, and can do noother , his own na- turals goodneffe and holineffe terminating volruntatemDivine cornplacenti& untoall ho- ly aâions by whomfoever performed. If God fhould command any perfon not-ele- &ed to believe, to live foberly, jufily and godlily in this prefent world , and fhould diflike him for fodoing, here were difiem- bling : but to command Cain or Judas to repent and believe, though God from all eternitie purpofed to denie them that fpeci- all effeduall grace without which he knew they would never repent or believe, here is no diffembling. Gods commands intimate what is well- pleafing unto him , if it be done , not what himfelf by fpeciall grace prepared for force men bath eternally and infallibly purpofed to make them do. God is not truly faid to purpofe that the repro- bate fhould not believe , unleffe it couldbe (hewed that the caufes oftheir unbeliefflow fromhis eternall decree or purpofe ofNon- elemion. The Remonf} rants will not denie that the Ccrvinu . decree of Cains or Judas his Reprobation wasboth eternall & immutable; neither can they affirm that God eternally and fecretly inhis own counfels purpofed tomake them repent
