But the folemnepradi.ce of this Author* is, tobe large in proving an antecedent which would have been granted without further proof, and to prelìippofe or beg the confequence which he is unable tomakegood. The martyrs did not endure racks, gib- sets, lions, &c. out of an hope that upon prefcience of faith and perfeverance they were elected or predeflinated before the foundations oftheworld were laid, whereas others out of Gods eternal! prefcîence of their finali impenitencie and infidelitie were pafi'ed-by, (which is the Elution and Re- probation onely allowed by the Remon- firants) but out ofa certainbeliefgrounded in the revealed word, that whofoever per- fevereth unto theend fhall be Paved. This hope of perfevering is no leífe ( nay it is more) ftrong in tholewho fetch their faith and perfeverance from the fpeciall mercy ofGod extended unto them in their Prede- flination, then it can be in thofe who fetch their Predeflination from Gods forefight onely of frith' and perfeverance, upon the condition ofgeneral! gracegrowing out of mans own free-will.
