448 The Sublapfriansdoariize M iN, Nay, but Chrift came into the world to leek and to fave what was loft, and is a propitiation not for our fnnes onely, vii the Chines of a few particular men, or the times all forts of men, but for thefnnes ofthe whole world: There- fore he carne to fave thee and to be a propitiation for thy fìnnes : for thou art one of them that were loft, and thou art one of the whole world. TEMPT. The w o R L D, as I-átve heard, is taken two wayes in Scripture; largely for all mankind, and (trietly in a îeftrained fagnification, for the deft or for believers. In this latter fenfe Chrifi dyed (I) for the world, namely, for the world of the Eleft, for the world of believers. Or if it be true that he dyed for all mankind, yet be dyed for them but afterafort: he dyedfor themall digtritarepretii,he didenough to have redeemed all, if God wouldhave bad itfo; but he did not die for all voluntate propofiti.
