Thefe wants then we are to bewail, and thefe graces we are to crave in this petition. Duties inprayer. Further, we are in thefe words taught to perform pá ° cord- thefe duties in prayer : T. That we pray according ing to Gods to Gods will, 'John 5. r +.asking fuch things onely will. as he hath promifed to grant. Otherwife in this pe- tition we pray againft our own defires, namely,that not our will but the will of God may be performed. 2. That in our prayers,efpecially for temporali mat- ters, we do humbly and willingly fubmit our felves to his will, and wholly refigne over our felves to his good pleafure, faying with our Saviour Chriff,Not my will, &c. becaufe we ought to be affured , that as for his wifdome he knoweth what is belt for us, fo alfo for his fatherly love he is moli ready to grant good things unto us, Matth. 7. i i. Rom. 8.3 2. and therefore if he deny our requeffs, that the deniall is better then the grant. And we are to remember that here we pray not that God would alter his will ac- cording to ours; but contrariwife, that our will may be conformable unto his. Duties in our lives.
