32'2 In what things our obedience is halving, there is halting between God and Mam- mon , between Chrift and Antichrift. The cove- tous man thinketh well of himfelf, becaufe he is not a whoremafler or a drunkard : the riotous perfon thinketh well of himfelf, that he is not covetous, no extortioner, &c. the Pharifee becaufe he is no Publicane,Luke a 8, &c. Re- member that religion is a way to the end, whereto we cannot come untill the end of our lives; and therefore if we fet down our ftaff before we come to the end, and will go no further, what will all our former pains avail us :' If we run in this race, and faint before we come to the goal,how (hall we hope to obtein the garland Be f aithfull unto death( faith our Saviour) and I will give thee the crown of life, Re- vel.2.I.o. and Matth. 24.13.
