344 Duties to 6e performea'by them that <uk daily dread. have need of every day , as the Syriack readeth, Luke z I. 5. As we are to acknowledge z. our own nullity, who have nothing ofour feives, and 2. our frailty and mortality, who cannot continue except we have a daily fupply; fo in the third place, whereas our Saviour doth teach us to ask thefe things not as our own defert but as the free gift of God, we muff confeffe our own unworthineffe, who cannot truly challenge unto our feives the leaft temporali benefit that may be as our own defert, but muff, as our Sa- viour hath taught us, beg it of God as his unde- ferved gift: Therefore we are to come unto God not in our own worthineffe but in his manifold mercies, acknowledging with Jacob that we are leffe then the leaft ofhis mercies, that we are not worthy to breathe in the air, not to dwell upon the earth, or to enjoy any of his bleífings ;which there- fore we humbly beg of him that he would give them unto us for his mercies fake in thrift Jefus. 4. Whereas our Saviour teacheth us to ask our bread, which we have gotten by good means, to be given us of God, this argueth z . our coveting of o- ther mens goods, & 2. our diffidence and diftruft in Gods providence, which maketh us ready in time of our need to ufe unlawfull and indirect means: In fenfe of which want we are to pray, that we may depend upon his providence, and caft our care upon him, expe6ting with all the creatures our daily food from him; and in all our need may be careful( to ufe good means, and with quietneffe to work that is good, that we may eat our bread given us of God:
