The fifth petition expanded.. ,ve being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, that is, Epheí.I.7. Col. 1.14. having by Chrift remiffi- on of our times and juftification, roe fhoald worfhip him without fear, in holinef and righteoufnefJe before him all the dayes of our life, Luke 1.73,74,75. And thefe are the benefits which fhould be preached in Chrifts name, repentance and forgiveneffe offinnes, Luke 24.47. Seeing therefore the fumme of all the benefits which in this life we receive by our bleffed Saviour confifteth in thefe two,we may be refolved that in thefé two the happineffe of a Chriftian in this life doth confift. For whereas the Lord fwarc to Abraham that in his feed all the nations of the earth fhould be bleffed, Gen. 22.18. Zachary being filled with the holy Ghoft, expoundeth that bleffedneffe to confift in thefe two , Luke i . 73. And indeed whereas there are two degrees of our happineffe, the one begun in this life, the other complete in the life to conle, that is to be efteemed our happineffe in this life whereby the perfect happineffe of the life to come is obteined. Now whom God háth chofen and called to falvation them he juftifieth, and whom he juftifieth, &c. Rom. 8. 3o. And this appeareth to be true alfo in the particulars, P fal, 3 2.1. Revel. 20.6. Seeing therefore the benefits which we have by Chrift in this life,' and confequently our happi- neffe, confifteth in thole fpirituall graces which our Saviour here reacheth us to crave of God ;it follow- eth neceffarily, that both in our affe &ions we fbould defire and in our judgements efteem thefe fpirituall graces farre above all earthly and temporall things, efteeming all other things as droffe and dung, yea as dole Ylk 1
