And therefore as thefe bleffings are abfolutely neceffary to our falvation, and of farre greater value then all temporali benefits, fo are they abfolutely to be cra- ved of God , and with greater fervencie and affe- 1ion. The order. Butler us confider the order and the coupling of this petition with that which went before and allo that which followeth. Our Saviour teacheth us in the former place to crave temporali benefits as the leffe,that our faith having been exercifed in the leffe might be confirmed in the greater; that is , that we having learned to depend upon Gods providence for our maintenance in this life , might the more firmly relie upon him for our juftification and fal- vation ; for if we have not learned to truft in him for theieífe, it is not likely that we fhould believe in him for the greater. The order in refpeó of that which followeth ftandeth thus ; We are taught to defire freedome from the guilt of our finnes before deliverance from the corrup4on,becaufe our recon- ciliation with God in Chrifl and juítificatioi, by faith in order of nature goeth before our fanóifica- tion; howfoever in time the beginning ofour fanai- fication concurreth with juftification.
