and of the divers f its of them. allureth by delires ofthe world, which are his baits; Sometimes inticeth by the counfel or example of others, which are his inftruments; Sometimes and moft ordinarily abufeth a mans own corruption, which is his bawd ; Sometimes he draweth there- unto as a means to efcape danger, as an evafion out of trouble, &c. So foolifh are men that they can, be perfwaded by the devil to Peek an iffue out of fome bodily trouble or danger with the hazard of their fouls. Sometimes he clotheth finne with the cloke of vertue. So much breifly (hall ferve to have fpoken of tentations as they are provocations to evil. Againíf which we pray not that we be not tempted; but, that the Lord would not in his fierce wrath for a punilhment of our finne lead us into tentation, nor give us over to our own concupifcences to be hard - ned in finne , or to the world to be carried away with the defires thereof, or to the devil to be over- come in tentation & to be carried away captive to the performance of his will. For howfoever men willingly run into thefe tentations , as the beati goeth chearfully to the (laughter; yet there can be no greater judgement inflïóed upon a man in this life then to be given over to his own lufts or to the allurements of the world or tentations of the devil.
