Evangelical: The Evangelicall righteoufneffe is that which what it iS. without theLaw is revealed in the Gofpel,whereby men that are finfull in themfelves, I mean believing fanners, and penitent finners, are accepted of God as righteous in Chriff. And it is twofold : For it is ei- ther imputed to a believing finner, as the righteouf- neffe of juflification, or infufed and fo inherent in a repentant finner, as the righteoufneffe of fandifica- tion. The former is perfect and not inherent, being the righteoufneffe of Chrifl apprehended by faith: The other is inherent but not perfect, being our new obedience wrought in us by the fpirit of regenerati- Mab z.4. on. In refped of the former it is Paid, that the righ- teous man (hall live by his fifth : In refpeC`I of the lat- ter, that he is a righteous man which worketh righ- teoufneffe. And this twofold righteoufheffe muff of neceffitie concurre in the fame partie, &c. By the doórine therefore of the Gofpel he is a righte- ous, a godly man, a Saint of God , who Both be- lieve and repent. And this is to be underftood not onely of thofe who are indued with perfeát faith and repentance, or the higher degrees thereof, but even of the loweft degrees or true faith and unfeign- ed repentance.
