That the impenitent cannot pray aceeptably, 1y, fpeedily, uprightly, faithfully, conflantly, fully; when as in truth they do the will of God no other - wife then the devils in hell, which howfoever in re- fpeCt of their intent rebell againft the will of God, yet if you refpeá the event, they become (maugre their fpite ) the inffruments to bring to paffe that which God hath willed and decreed. They crave bread at the hands of God , as if a fmall thing would content them , when they defire exceffe of riches, neither can be fatisfied with abun. dance. They crave daily brew, or, as the word fi.. gnifieth, fuch a portion of temporali bleffings as God (hall judge moft expedient for them; as if they meant not to be their own carvers, but in thefe out- ward things refigned them felves into the hands of God, and fubrnitted themfelves to his fatherly pro- vidence, when they are fuch as have fet down with themfelves that they will be rich, I. Tim. 6. and will come to great matters whether God give them good means or not, and will frame their own for- tune. They beg for a day, as if they would depend upon God for to morrow, & yet difirufifully hoard up for many yeares. They defire temporall things to be given them of God,and yet feek them by wic- ked and unlawfull means. They defire God to remit their finnes, as if they repented of them; which they fiill retein, as if they did in mockery defire the Lord to forgive the firms which they will not forgo.
