CHAP. XIIII. That Chrifi alone is the mediatour of intercef ion as well ors redemption. HAving fpoken of the fubjea of invocation, viz. men; and the objea., viz. God : we are now in the third place to enquire, how it cometh to paffe that man being ffained and polluted with finne, and by reafon thereof an enemie to God, fhould have any acceffe unto God, or be admitted to any fpeech with him, who is moft juif and terrible, a confu- ming fire, & hating all iniquitie with perfeí`l hatred. Indeed it mull be confeffed, that finne maketh a fe- paration between God and man, and that both we are unworthy in our felves to appear before God, and our prayers alto by reafon of our manifold wants and corruptions unworthy to he offered unto him. And therefore ofneceffitie a mediatour was to come between God and man, who reconciling us unto God, and covering our imperfections, might make both our perlons and our prayers acceptable unto
