^o That Ghri f7 is the onely Mediatour of more gods; fo have they appointed other media- tours and interceffours betides Chrift. And the rea- fon is alike in both. But the Apoftle teacheth us, Tim.i.5. That is there is but one God, fo there is but one Media - tour between God andman, the man Christ. The Papifts The Papifts make two forts of mediatours, the make two forts of me- one of redemption, the other of intercefsion; and siiatours. they do confeffe in word that Chrift is the onely Ivlediatour of redemption, but of intercefsion they adjoyn other mediatours unto him, viz. the Saints departed. Here therefore I will thew two things: r. That they feem to acknowledge other mediatours of re- demption, and fo in deed overthrow that which in word they confeffe; 2. That none can be mediatour of intercefsion who is not alfo of redemption. For as touching the firft; in many of their authorized prayers they delire God to have mercie on them in forgiving their finnes,and in giving unto them good things as well fpirituall as temporali for the merits and interceffion of the Saints ; and fo plainlythruff the Saints into the office of Chrift. And not onely fo, but they invocate alto the Saints as they do Chrift to bellow good things upon them, and to avert evil from them , fubttituting them, as I have Mewed before, into the room of the tutelar gods of the heathen. But let us fee whether there be any mediatours of intercefsion who are not alfo of redemption.
