74 Chrïfl alone is the Mediatour of Intercession: 12. fo is he the perfect Saviour, becaufe he ever liveth to make intercefsion for us, Heb. 7.25. For whereas they ordain other intercelfours for whole fake they delire to be heard , they do it altogether without warrant of Scriptures, wherein there is no doctrine, no precept, no promife, no example to warrant it: and confequently fuch prayer cannot be made in faith, neither can it pleafe God. And with what forehead can they take from Chrift his office and the honour thereof which he purchafed with his bloud , and without any warrant from him afsigne it to others: as though Chrift having for a fhort time exercifed the office of mediation, fhould to the end of the world have refigned it to his fervants. But the holy Ghoft teacheth the contrary Heb. 7.25. that Chriff is therefore able perfec7ly and fully <<s 73 ï v -44, to f ve thole which by him do come to God, be- caufe he liveth ever to make intercefsion for them. Chrift is the onely way and the onely acceffe un- to God: Thofe that leave this way and this acceffe, they have no way nor acceffe to God with hope or comfort; or if any will go to God any other way, in flead of a throne of grace they (hall find a tribu- nall of j uflice and terrour, and in flead of a merciful!
