Chrifl alone is the Mediatour of Intercefsion: us to come unto him, and who do come he promi- feth not to rejeâ, Matth. r i. 28. John 6.37. Inju- nous therefore and blafphemous are they againft Chrift, efleeming him as auflere, and feeking to the Saints as more propitious ; efpecially when they commit the adminiflration of juflice to Chrift, and of mercy to his mother; and therefore appeal from the tribunal of his juflice to the throne of his mo- thers mercy. But befides the horrible fuperftition and idolatry, befides the facrilegious injurie offered unto Chrift, befides their own infidelitie and un- thankfulneffe towards Chrifl, it is extreme folly and madneffe rather to feek to other mediatours, Peeing in Chrift nothing is wanting which is requi- red in a perfea Mediatour. For by his all - fufficient merits he hath fatisfied the juftice of God, fo that for his merits we may trufl to be heard: He is in highefl favour with God,in whom the Lord graci- oufly acceptethwhomfoever he loveth;& therefore we may be bold to pray that for his fake we may be heard: He heareth our prayers & is acquainted with our perfons and wants, and he is moll gracious and favourable in commending our fuits unto God: He path commanded us to call upon God in his name, and hath promifed that we (hall obtein : Whereas the Saints have no merits'to plead for themfelves, and much leffe for others, but thofe of Chrift. In Chrift they are loved and gracioufly accepted. They heare not our prayers, neither are acquainted with our perfons or wants ; and all the love they have is but a fmall refexion ofthe beams of Chrifis love flied abroad in their hearts by the holy Ghofl: neither 1
