For euen thofe who are lober, graue and humble, when they fee thofe who are inferiour veto them - felues in place and calling, fo farre outfirip them in this out- ward brauerie, cannot chufe but difdaine and fcorne it; and others who thinke themfelues as good as they, comming fhort of them for want of meanes,or will,° to bellow their eoa,doe as much enuie and hate them. The which fheweth the extreame follie ofthele proud perlons; lot whereas they might haue loue and due refpeót among their neighbours good cheape,they rather chufe to purchafe hatred, enuie, and contempt, at there deare rates. Finally, by this outward brauerie they difgrace themfelues, and bewray vnto euery judicious beholder the fecret corruptions which lie lurking in their hearts. For when the heart is infeóted and poyfoned with the contagiousplague of pride, it tainteth outwardly the whole body with the markes and tokens,which certain- ly prognoilicate death and deltru6lion,without repentance.
