Hriflians, who have fuch a vigilant and confiant at- tendant as Confcience waiting on them, had much need of watchfulnefs, that they may be kept in foine fuitablenefs of frame for entertaining that com- panion : Confcience its work is not only to be advifing and deliberating what is to be done, but alto to be wait- ing on when it comes to the a&ing and performing of what it bath been advifing to ; and it is indeed no lefs praaique to carry Confcience along in the performing of duty, than it is in taking Tome pains to confult it, and advife with it at the undertaking thereof, fo as we may e anfwerable to Confcience as to both. Oft-times fome pains will be taken in deliberating and advifing with Confcience, what and when we :Mould do, when we will , exceedingly relent in taking it along with us in the per- formance : Whence it frequently comes to pals, that we lofe the peace. we gained ni advifing with Confcience at s our undertaking the action, by not carrying it along with us in performing. This is the thing which we propofed tribe fpoken to from this verle, vim.. the influence that Confcience bath on mens acting, and the refpe& that :they ought to have to it, not only before they undertake any action, but in, and along the performing it. The fail d©ffrine we fpoke to from it was, That there is not :any a &ion of a man's life, but Confcience is concerned :in it, and bath fomething to fay concerning it, for or gain him, if it were but the fpeaking of a word, or ithe aflertin34 of any truth ; as we fee in this inftance of ;Paul, hi.s Confcience beareth him witnefs, it hath fome, tiling to fay to him anent his doing it.
