072 Aás 16. 24. 49 O do you believe and remember that there is a Confci- ence within you, and that it will call you to a reckoning ! Sure, if ye did in good earnefl, ye would be other man- ner of men. 'Tis generally granted, that there is a Confcience in all, and the profanef will have Confcience often in their mouth (and indeed their Confcience is little worth) when they (land in no awe of it, but rather trample on it : Let me tell you, The greater light ye have, and the more means and warnings ye are privileged with, the greater will be the aggravation of your guilt, and the more dreadful will be your dittay and doom from God, and from your own Confcience : If Confcience will be an impartial witgefs, and fevere judge againft all, even Heathens, who never heard the gofpel, O then what accefs will it have, terribly to reprove, condemn, finite and gnaw you that live under the gofpel, and hear the word daily ! Many of you have force Duckling and furring of Confcience within you : But, alas ! ye know not what it meaneth, and would be quit of it : But from this word be exhorted to know, who bath appoin- ted it, and for what end it is appointed, and make ufe of its warnings ; as for othere that know ir, and go on leeping fecurely in your fin, 1 muff fay this to you,That, the more knowledge ye have of it, it will certainly make you to have the more dreadful wakning. When all the kindred, of the earth fhall howl at the feeing of the Son of man, and fraud trembling at his prefence, O what a fcreich and cry will Confcience have in that day, louder (I conceive) in force refpe&, than the trumpet itfelf, fet- ring home the truth of challenges, bearing witnefs of the fa&, and repkrefenting the horror, terror and tor- ment abiding them ! Therefore think on it, O think on it, all ye who continue in fin, and will not be reclaimed, who mock at all warnings, and break all bonds, and will not be fuhjet to difcipline ; ye Than' not be able to /hake off the bond of Confcience, but it (hall bind you as, the collar of your coat, and keep you bound till ye be filled before the judgment -feat of God. Ufe 3. Seeing ye have a Confcience, let it not be (- lent, idle and ufelefs, but put it ro (peak, and do you hear what it faith, and take you from it ; it will not be bribe&
