vn MIS 24. 1 C7. 0, peace in his way, if he difpenfe with himfelf in any thing which his Confcience doth not difpenfe with him in ; and it will be impoífible to have folid peace , if he do otherwife. So then the walk of a Chriftian ought to be equally and exa&ly extended (no lefs than is the Confcience) according to the rule of the word. Betide what we laid on this before, anent having clear - nefs from the word in the judgment, and hearkning to the voice of Confcience rightly informed ; we lhall in- fiance the extent of a Chriftian walk according to Confci- ence in thefe fevers particulars ; i. A man that would walk according to Confcience, mutt have a refpea to all forts of duties, in words, thoughts, and a &ions ; for Confcience will challenge for an idle word, and for a finful thought. To Simon, Ails 8. 22. Pays the apoffle, Pray God, if perhaps the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee: Which faith, that finful thoughts may have influence to difquiet the Confcience, and that a man who would keep peace in his Confcience fhould difpenfe with himfelf in none ofthofe. 2. Aman that would walk according to Confcience, mutt extend duty to all particulars of every kind, to every thought, every word, and every a &ion : For, according as Confcience, when in cafe, is pieafed or difpleafed in every one of thefe,in pub - lick, in private, in fecret, in greater or finaller duties or fins ; fo it will accufe or excufe : So then, as Confcience regardeth all duties and kinds of them, to it regardeth ever particular of every kind. 3. A man that would walk according to Confcience, mull aim in his Chriflian walk at the highefi degree in every one of thefe ; thou he come lhort, yet he muff not difpenfe with himfelf in his lhort_ coming in any of them : For inflance, as he moil love God, Co he muff endeavour to love him with all his ftrength, foul and mind; and, as he moll be holy, to he mutt aim to perfe &.holinefs, and to purify himfelfeven as he is pure : In this refpett, the leaff defe& will give Confcience ground of a challenge and, if he in the leali but indire &ly difpenfe with himfelf in it, it will breed a quarrel . 4. Walking according to Confcience, tieth a man to be in this aim and defign always; fo as it allowed' cif po intermit t;®n ; As for ìnffance, To fiùdy holinefs E3
