PART M. of gracious 4ffeilions. 173 that we fhould forget the Things that are behind, and be= reaching forth to the `Things that are before, andprèfng towards the Markfor thePrize of the high Calling of God, in Chri/1 7efus our Lord, in order to eur obtaining that Prize. Slothfulnefs in the Service of God, in his pro- fefí'ed Servants, is as damning, as open Rebellion : For the flothful Servant, is a wicked Servant, and /hall be caft into outer Darknefs, amongGod's openEnemies ; Matth.25.26,28. They that are flothful, are not Followers of them, who thro' Faith and Patience inherit the Pro- mites. Heb. 6. i t , 12. .fled we defire that every one ofyou dothew the /acre Diligence, to the full /%Durance of Rope, unto the End : that ye be notflothful ; but Followers of them, who thro' Faith and Patience inherit the Promifes. And all they who follow that Cloud of Witnefies that are gone before to . Heaven, do lay aide every LF eight, and the Sin that eafily befets them, and do run with Patience the Race that isfet before them, Heb. 12. i. That true Faith, by which Perfons rely on the Righ- teodfnefs of Chrift, and the Work that he bath done for them, and do truly feed and live upon him, is evermore accompanied with fuch a Spirit of Earneftnefs in the chrittian Work and Courfe. Which was typified of old, by the Manner of the Children of Ifiael's feed- ing on the Pafchal Lamb : Who were directed to eat it, as thofe that . were in Hafte, with their Loins girded, their Shoes on their Feet, and Staff in their Hand ; Exod. 12. II. And thus /hallye eat it ; withyour Loins girded, your Shoes onyour Feet, andyour Staf inyour Hand, and je ,/hall eat it in Hafle : It is the Lord's Paver. 3. Every true Chriflian perfeveres in this Way of univerfal Obe- dience, and diligent and earneR Service of God, thro' all the various Kinds of Trials that he meets with, to the End of Life. That all true Saints, all thofe that doobtain eternal Life, do thus perfevere in the Practice of Religion, and the Service of God, is a Doctrine fo abundantly taught in the Scripture, that particularly to rehearfe all the Texts which imply it would be endlefs.
