286 'he twelfth Sign PART III® giveth Light unto all that are in the Houfe. Let your Light foJhine be- fore Men, that they may SEE YOUR. GOOD WORKS, andglorify your Father which is in Heaven. A fair and beautiful Profeffion, and gol- den Fruits accompanying one another, are the amiable Ornaments of the trueChurch of Chrift. Therefore we find that Apples andFlowers were not only the Ornaments of the Candleftick in the Temple, but of the Temple it Pelf, which is a Type of the Church ; which the Apoftle tells us is the Temple of the living God. See i Kings 6. :8. And the Cedar of the Houfe within, was carved with Knops and open Flowers. The Ornaments and Crown of the Pillars, at the Entrance of the Temple, were of the fame Sort : They were Lillies and Pome- granates, or Flowers and Fruits mix'd together ; r Kings 7. 18, 19. So it is with all thofe that are as Pillars in the Temple of God, who/ball go no more oat, or never he ejeSted as Intruders ; as it is with all true Saints ; Rev. 3. 12. Him that overcometh will I make a Pillar in the Temple of my God,- andhe (hallgo no more out. Much the fame Thing feems to be fignified by the Ornaments on the Skirt of the Ephod, theGarment of Aaron the high Prieft ; which were golden Bells and Pomegranates. That thefe Skirts of Aaron's Garment reprefent the Church, or the Saints (that are as it were the Garment of Chrift) is manifeft ; for they are evidently fo fpoken of, Pfal. 133. r, 2. Behold, how good and howpleafant it isfor Brethren to dwell together in Unity ! It is like the precious Ointment upon the Head, that ran down upon the Beard, even Aaron's Beard, that went down to the Skirts of his Garments. That Ephod of Aaron fignified the fame with the feamlefs Coat of Chrift our great high Prieft. As Chrift's Coat had no Seam, but was woven from the Top throughout, fo it was with the Ephod, Exod. 39. 22. As God took Care in his Pro- vidence, that Chrift's Coat fhould not be rent ; fo God took fpeciai Care that the Ephod fhould not be rent ; Exod. 28. 32. and Chap. 39. 23. The golden Bells on this Ephod, by their precious Matter and pleafant Sound, . do well reprefent the good Profeffion that the Saints make ; and the Pomegranates, the Fruit they bring forth. And as in the Hem of the Ephod, Bells and Pomegranates were con - Randy connected, as is once and again obferved, there was a golden Bell anda Pomegranate, agolden Bell and a Pomegranate, Exod. 28.34. and Chap. 39. 26. So it is in the true Saints ; their good Profeffion and their good Fruit, do conftantly accompany one another : The Fruit they bring forth in Life, evermore anfwers the pleafant Sound of their Profeffion. Again, The very fame Thing is reprefented by Chrift, in his De- fcription of his Spoufe, Cant. 7. 2. Thy Belly is like an Heap of Wheat, jet about with Lilies. Here again are beautiful Flowers, and good Fruit, accompanying one another. The Lillies were fair and beautiful Flowers, and the Wheat was good Fruit. As
