3 72 Faiths Triumph; it:away again. It is well tohave abundance, faith nature, and fence, we cannot be without it : no faith Faith, I will yield to Gods will, it is good to enjoy this faith 1 Sence : it is better to part with it, faith Faith, when God calls for it. Zi,:; z. secondly,Faith cangive God the glory ofall outwardcomforts; thisis a great oc- caftonofftilling ourfouls, to findout the right owner ofour comforts ; ifa man did once difcern that by.faith, that God is the Authorofall comfort, and that all moo- cies come from God, this would makeus fubmit in-the dayof trial: this is certain, God is the God of our bodies, and of our fouls, and ofour comforts ; who hails more right to a poffefionthen the owner, all our comforts are but Gods fervants, God is the great Landlord of heaven and earth, the God of all our.poffefíions what if he be picafed togather a flower, we are but tenants at will, and whatfoever our outward efface is, Faith over-looks .all, and fubmits all to God,aud receives it,by Gods permiffion, and doth as it were hear the Lord fay, I muttdo whatIwill with mine own Faithmakes a man fay, nathing is mine own,my Child isnot mine own, my \fTife is not mine own, it is Gods poffrilion, when God callsfor it ; Faith re- figns it up as Gods due, faith rendersunto God,tbo things that Gods. Raj: 3. Thirldly, Faithcan make thefoul acquit it felf in great trials, becaufefaith finds no lofs by obediential fubmiffion, for all our unwillingnefs to refign up, and to part with any comfort, it Both arife from infidelity, or from the ftubbornefs that is ina perfon; when aman haves and holdshis comfort contrary to Gods will ; or elfe it doth arife from a conceit that fome damage will redound to our (elves, in parting with [Itcha bleffing,ütit faith feesfafety enough toyield up all into Godshands, who isthe Farber ofmercy, and Godof all confelation. Thus we fee Abraham being put. to it about his only fon, begives up his child, his Ifaac, andGodbeftóws Ifaac upon Abraham again ; nay, a further degree ofbleffing confirmed with an oath In Waging, I will bless thee, and in multiplying I willmultiply thee, and will multiply thy fèed as thefare ofheaven This is ever true; faith makes aman give back a bleffing with this conclufion, either Godwill continue the comfortto a perfou, or elfe he will give himmore or a better for it.. Fourthly,a fourth reafon why Faith can make a manacqùit himfelfin greattrials, becaufe Faith can find all loffes madeup inGod alone ; Faith can find Godas a moft ampleanduniverfal good ; Faith dothlook uponGod asa particular, good, and fuch a good that anfwers all again, that abundantly makes up all loffes : Therebe many broken pieces ofcomfort thatmuft concur tomake upour outward good ; for our good here below is a compounded good, the Wife is a part that makes upour good below; and our children are a part that makes upour good below, and our health, andour riches, and ourfriends ; many of thefe concur together, to make up our good below: butGod is all this inhimfel, andmuchmore, whatfoever good,what- foever comforts, are in a Child, aWife, a Husband, or ín friends,in riches, in health; all that is in God, andmuch more tofaith : what is that thou feeft in a Husband, or in' a Wife, or in a Child, that thou mayeft not fee in God ? What is that thou findeft in friend, that Thou mayeftnotfind in .God ? and what is therein riches, thatthou mayeff not have much more in God ? theHusband can do thee no good without God,'who cando thee fo much good as God ? the Husband can comfort thee, who cancomfort thee fomuch as God ? a friendmay counfel thee, and dire&thee, but hecannot deliver thee ; Faith fees more in God than in riches, more in Godthen in all outward bleffings ;- bring all the outward comfortstogether, they cannot make up 'a Chriftianscomfort; Faith is never fatisfied with thefe tkings,it is notaChild a- lone, nor a Husband- alone, nora wifealone, nor 'a friend alone, that makes up a Chains comfort, but God alonecan doit; whatfoever is in any outward comfort Faith finds it much more in God, God and his favour, Godandhis gracious counte- nance, thefe make up a Chriftians comfort, this.alonefupports the Chriftian, and in the want of all things Faith can comfort it Pelf in the favour ofGod ; in the lofs of all'things, Faith -can-find all again in the favour of God. This is afourth reafon why Faithmakes a manacquit himfelf in great Trials. A fifth reafon, why Faith makes a manacquit himfelf in great troubles, becaufe Faith knows upon-what terms wepoffefs all thefe outward comforts, upon what finali 7Qa.1: 4.
