Then this teacheth us to have an eye to Gods word in that which we do, if we would fatisfie confcience. j say, have an eye to Gods word : not onely to do that which it may be is in Gods word ; conicience counteth that to be no- thing : but to have an eye to Gods word. Confcience will not be iatisf ed with any obedience that we do if we have not an eye to sods word. Whatever we have an eye to betides, conicience knoweth it is nothing, if in all we have not an eye to the commandment or God : Though we do obey it, confci- ence looketh upon it as if vve did not obey it. It is onely Gods commandment and auchoriìte that bindeth confcience : and therefore nothing fatisfiecn conicience unleflc we have an eye i unto that. If we do nor aim at Gods will in doing what we do, confcience counteth our obedience as no obedience at all.
