Word, he preaches but the dead corps of the Truth, as I may call it : he does not preach the life and the foul of the truth. The affe&ions of a fpeech are the foul of á fpeech, both makeup the whole of the Word. Is not my Word like unto fire, and like a hammer that breaketh the rocks in peeces ? Ier.23.29. If the Word be a fire, he that delivers it coldly, delivers the Word otherwife then it is. Would you not fay that a man were ridiculous, who when his neigh- bours houfe is on fire, fhould go and coldly advife the Pa- rini in this manner; O my dear neighbours, you fhould do well to look to your houf s, left fire fall upon them, as now of late I underftood it hash done ; I pray let me per - fwade you to provide water, otherwife all your goods and mine too will be confumed to afhes : it is true that this man fayes ; but would not men deem him a fool ? the truth, is the truth of affection, and he leaves out the atfehion of the truth.
