Anti unto the Angel of the Church in Sardis, write Thee things faith bee that bath the [even Spi- rits of God, &c. E have done with the Infcription, ,end unto the Angel of the Church sn Sardio, write. Wee come now to the Subfcription, and that is in thefe words : Theft things faith he that hath the feven Spirits of God, and the fevers Stars ; Which words containe a defcription of the Lord Jefus Chrift, from whom this Epiftle is fent unto the Church , and he is defcribed very glorioufly , to the intent that what hee fayes, may bee the more reverently and feri- oufly regarded. The Defcription Lets forth two admirable properties and royalties of our Lord Jdus Chrift. Firft, That he hath the fevers Spirits of Goa, that is, hee bath the Holy Ghofl,to give to whomfoever he pleafe. Secondly, That be hath the feves Stars, that is, the Paftors and Mini - fters of the Church. Chrift hath them all in his hand, to fend them, to gift them, to aflifl them, to preferve them, to vouchfafe them to a people , or to take them away, as he lifts ; and the Minifters are called Stars, becaufe they are to Thine in the firmament of the Church. Firft then, the firft royalty of our Lord and Saviour Je. fus Cbrift, is, thatlhe hath the (even Spirits of God : by the (even Spirits of God,hee means the Holy Ghoft ; you will fay the Holy Ghoft is but one Spirit.
