Take a man that is alive to the things here below, how conGderative is that man, in all matters of that nature : As for example now, for his. gaine ; lice takes every thing into confederation that may make for his gaine ; He will have his wits about him, when he buyes or Ida, when lie fowes or reaps; he confiders with himfelfe, that lie will not fòw too f ®on, or too late in the yeare, or a grain that the ground will not beare, he confiders how long it was fence it was fallow, how long it will bearo, till it be laid fallow againe; he confiders when he may fill dearefi, when he may buy cheapeft; when is the bell time to put off a commodity. This is the livelyneffe of his minde in there things. Take this man now for his foule, his minde is fiarke heavy, and loofe thoughts (Ball ferve turne for that, he does not .onfider here. But when a man is alive unto God, now his confiderations twine out this way, now he is confiderative this way, for his foule , for his 1pirituall and eteraall good. Beloved, conhderation is a lively a& of the minde ; as you may fee there in Mofes. Know therefore this day and confider it in thy heart ; that the Lord he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath, Deut.4.39. That is, doe not onely know it, but quicken'up thy minde to confider it ; this will doe thee good indeed ; this is a very perfeq A& of the minde ; as we fee in David ; when I confider the Hesvens the worke of thy handy, the Moone, and the Staffs; which than haft ordained ; then fay, Lord what is man? í61.83,4.. You fee how flirting his minde was, when he conlidered the heavens and the earth, it wrought mightily on him ; it made him the more humble. Others f ee the Heavens every day, and it does not move them one whit
