Cr Form of Faith: Obedience, tho' imperfec% yet fincere ; they fay, have the fame Influence , on tour juftification as Faith hath, and is formally included in the Conception of Faith; and therefore, that Faith cloth not juftify us in- firumentally, but conditionally; and that the Difference betwixt the firft Covenant of Works, and the fecond of Grace, is, That the firft Covenant did require perfect Obedi- ence as the Condition of Life, and the fe- cond is fatisfied with fincere Obedience : This laft Notion of Faith I molt diflike of any ; and if I miftake not, is of molt dange- rous Confequence, and rends to the overthrow of the Gofpel, and the introducing of ano- ther Covenant of Works, tho' not perfed Works, and of laying aFoundationof Boaft- ing in our felves, and making Chrift and his Righteoufnefs in vain, and exprelly contrary to the Strain of Scripture, and fcope thereof; efpeciaily in the Epiftles of Paul to the Romans and Galatians, of which we may (peak yet at greater Length, God willing.
