Rea, 4. Becaufe the Promifes are the Ob jea of Faith And therefore the Under- faandïng, which clofes with the Promifes, believing and applying them, muff be the Subjea of Faith. The firft Propofition g have proven already. Rea. 5. Becaufe Unbelief and Doubting, which are contrary to Faith, are in the Underfanding Therefore Faith its con- trary Form muff be in the Underíianding lkewife. The Antecedent is clear : When a Man diíirufs his Friends, and doubts his own Affairs, this Doubting doth not, import any Hatred, or, Averfion of Will to himfelf or his Friends, but either a Doubt- ing of his own Strength, or a Belief and Ferfwafián, or Opinion of his Friends Weak- tersw or Faithfulnefs. Rea. 6. Becaufe by Unbelief we snake God a Liar, and by Faith we fet to our Seal, that God is true; or as john hath it, the Faith which is oppofite to this Unbelief, is a be- lieving of God's Record concerning his Son, which Record is that God hath given to Life, and this.
