Rea, 4. Becaufe the Promifes are the Ob jea of Faith And therefore the Under- faandïng, which clofes with the Promifes, believing and applying them, muff be the Subjea of Faith. Becaufe Unbelief and Doubting, which are contrary to Faith, are in the Underfanding Therefore Faith its con- trary Form muff be in the Underíianding lkewife. The Antecedent is clear : When a Man diíirufs his Friends, and doubts his own Affairs, this Doubting doth not, import any Hatred, or, Averfion of Will to himfelf or his Friends, but either a Doubt- ing of his own Strength, or a Belief and Ferfwafián, or Opinion of his Friends Weak- tersw or Faithfulnefs. Becaufe by Unbelief we snake God a Liar, and by Faith we fet to our Seal, that God is true; or as john hath it, the Faith which is oppofite to this Unbelief, is a be- lieving of God's Record concerning his Son, which Record is that God hath given to Life, and this.
