a Sò Of the SubjeC and Underftanding. (2.) Suppofe that by Heart here were mean's and included the Will, yet doth this only but prove that the Will doth fome Way concur with, and co- operate with Faith in believing, although the Will be not the proper Subje& of Faith, and the Expreffion, Rom. x. 9. doth no more prove the Will to be the Subje& of Faith, than the like Expreffion, Mark xii. 33. To love the Lord with the Underflanding, Both prove, that therefore the Underftanding is the Subje& of Love : Therefore, as we may be faid to love the Lord with the Underflanding, tho' the Underflanding be not the Subje& of Love; fo may we be faid to believe with the Heart, tho' every' Faculty of the Heart be not the Subje& of Believing. Object. z. Many contend, That the Will and Underflanding are not two diflinEl Faculties but . one: If therefore Faith be in the Underflanding), as in its proper SubjeEl, it mull likewife be in the Will as in its Subjei. Anf. As this will not be granted by the molt judicious Philofophers, that the Facul- ties of Will and Underftanding are one ; and if it were granted, I fnould not contend : So, fuppofing them one and the fame Faculty d parte Rei ; vet do all fay that they are formal- ly and relatively difline : And therefore, that fame A&s proceed from thefe Faculties, under ohe Confderation, and forme under another Nor.
