208 Of the Subjei vantage thereof: Scripture tells us, That God refifleth the Proud, and giveth Grace to the Humble : That therefore fuch who conceit their own Righteoufnefs, fo as to be heard with God, quarrelling, and like Devils mur- muring againft God, being proud, and fo re- filled by the Lord, mull, in Order to their getting. Favour from the Lord, be humble, and made filent before him, elfe it were not creditable for the Lord to Chow them any Mer- cy, nor iho old they he fenfibly in Grace's Re- verence for it. When therefore we are com- manded to humble our felves under the mighty .Hand of God, that he may in due 2 lime raife us up, he requires Luch a previous Difpofiti;on to Faith, as we byFaith receive our Pardon from the exalted Prince of Life on our Knees, and our 1Vlouths in the Drift ; which without this Humiliation will not be done. Object. 3. This Condition is not found among 'all the Patterns of Gofpel Converts, never one of them` of whom this was required : Ai-e ye con- tent to be damn'd.
