~ Sermots XXX. \I'V"'W An Expofttion of the Epiftle SE~MON XXX~ E P H E S. I. 20. Which he wrought in Cbrifl, when he raifed him from the dead, andJet bim at biJ own right hand in the Hea· ven!J placer, &c. THefe words in the 2oth. verfe are in their Coherence to be conlidered by us two ways, according to their Coherence with the words before, and the words that follow after. In refpeCt of their Coherence with the words before, they come in by way of Comparifon or Analogy or Similitude to !hew that the fame power that wrought in Chrifi in raifing him up and fetting him at God's right hand, works in us Be– lievers, and is ingaged to do fo. Orelfe Secondly," they are to be taken in and conlidered fimply, and as fpoken abfolutely of Chrifi, as fetting out his Death or Refurreel'ion and Exaltation and fttting at God's right hand. Now, That this latter the limple or abfolute confideration of Chrifi, as laying forth to us thefe great Articles of our Faith, concerning his Refurreel'ion and Glo– rification, is the main (cope that the Apofile here intendeth, aAd to reprefent thefe things to theEphtjians eyes, and to pray they may know them, is evident by this, that when he had fpoken in a few words of the parallel power in both, he hinrerh that but in a word or two; but he runneth out upon the other, and fpendeth you fee Four whole verfes of the Chapter in the inlarging himfelf upon the Refurreetion and Exaltation of our Lord and Saviour Jefus Chrifi. The comparative Confideration of the fame Power, that that which wrought in Chrifl, works in Believers, f have difpatched; but that which I am now en– tring upon is the fimple Confiderstion of the main grounds of Faith which are to be known about Chrifi. T hefe now come to be confidered, Now, I have given you the Coherence and fcope ofrhe words, I will give you the pws of them in general, (as much as now neederh,) ro the end of the Chap· ter. Firfl, He doth run over (I fay) the great Articles of your Faith concerning r (us Chrifi.
