An Expofttion of the Epiftle ~ thy right haudthere a_re Pltafttresfor evermore. It is fpoken affuredly of fuch Sermo1t Plcafures as Jefus Chnfi by way of prerogative en;oyeth beyond all the Saints XXXI. and Angels, he being at God's right hand, fo as none of them are. It was that ~peculiar encouragement that Jelus Chnfi had, not to be m Heaven only as a common Saint, but to be in Heaven at God's right hand, and to have Pleafures anfwerable, f•r above all the pleafures of Men and Angels, as I lhall ·fhew you when I come to handle that point. There are faid to be Pleaj11res at God's right hmtd. The Right hand you know is that wherewith a man is bountiful ; if h'e will lay out himfelf and diflribute of 11is Riches, he doth it with his Right hand; Let not thy lf{t hand know what th)•right hcmddoth. When Jefus Chrifi fpeaks of God's dt!lributing and com– municating to him fulnefs of pleafures!, he faith, At thy right hand are P!ea– [ttres,~c. JefusChrifi is at God's right hand, and therefore God doth commu– nicate and impart to him, to the utmofl, all his happinefs, fo far forth as that bu• mane Nature is capable of. Lmgth of daies are at her right hrmd, that is, E– ternal life, mu/at her lrjt, Riches and Ho11ottr: So WiJdom fpeaks in the Pro· verbs, for we are faid to be at God's right hand. The happmefs of the Saints at the latter day, how is it exprefl in Scripture l He wilt Jrt them 011 hu right hmtd. I fpeak it for this, That happinefs, and being in Heaven, is exprefi by being at God's right hand; and Chrifl is faid to be at God's right hand, what happinefs and pleafures then hath he? On the other fide, The highefl mifery of wicked men, is faid to be in their being at God's left hand. . As it implieth thefuhufs of Pleaji1re, foitimporteth HotJOttrand Glory, and a fulnefs of the participation of that. For that you may take thofe expre!Tions I gave you before, of <2.J;leen Ba(hjbeba, being fet at Solomon's right hand; it was in away of glory and refpeCl: unto her; r Ki11g.2.I 9· Whm Bath/heba came to the Kitlg, the Ki11g roje ttp to mut her, mtd fat doum ttpott his Thro11e, and caufed a feat to ~e Jet for the Ki11g's Mother, rmd.)he jr1t on his right hand, Therefore our Saviour Chrifl, when they (Matt.zo.) deftred one to be on his right handand the other on his lejt,he interpreteth it in verfe 2 7-to be a deftre of 6ei11g Chief, that is the interpretation he himfelf putteth upon it.He is therefore in that firfi of the H•brews, verfe 11. faid to befet dowtt O!l the right ha1Jdof Ma– jefiJ', having imparted to him a God-like and a Royal Majefly, fuch as appear– eth in no Creature. So now to befet down at God's right hand, (which is a fe· cond meaning of it) is this, for Jefus to be crowned with Glory and HotJottr; We (ee Jejits (faith he, Heb.2.9.) to bf crowned with Glory and Ho11011r; that is, he is fet down at the right hand of Majefly. In the Third place, To beJet dowll at God's right hcmd, is not only to have a fulnefs of happinefs, to enjoy the Godhead; to have Rivers of Pleafmes from his right hand, and to have Glory and Majefly to be fet above all; but it is to have a real Rule, and Power, and 'Domi11io11 put into his hands toa. Kings oftentimes make no other ufe of their Kingdoms, but to enjoy Plcafures, and Glory, and State; but for their Rule they leave it unto others, as Pharaohdid to Jof•ph; !11 the Thro11e (faith he) I wilt be above thee. 13ut now it is other– wife, when Jefus Chrifl is fet down at God's Right hand, he bath the Rule; the Dominion over all things imparted to him, he is invefled with it. And this a different thing from Majefly; therefore they are both mentioned in Matt. 24 30. Tejbafljee (faithhe)theSOitof Mall comil;gi11 theUottds with power and greatglorJ'· Power is one thing, and Glory is another, although it is power that doth make glorious: And hence therefore one Evangelifl calleth it, S11ti11g 011 the right ba11d of power, Mark.14.62. becaufe that Chrifl is irrvefled with the Power of God; and the Right baud is in a more efpecial manner put for Power in Scripture, As (to give you but one place for it; though there be mul– titudes of them,) Exod. I 'i .6. Thy 1·ight ha11d, 0 Lord, is become gloriotts i11 power. The Righ~ hand is !till put for Power. So that for Chrifl ta fit a.t God's right hand, ts for h1m. to have all Power and Domtmon put mro lm hands. Therefore both in Pja!. 1 I o. where God's placing Chrifl at his Right hand is mentioned; there he is called, Lord: The Lord Jmd tmto my Lord, Sit thou 011 ''!Y right hand.
