T Hefcope of the Apofile in thefe words is by way of amplification to fet forth unto us the glorious exaltation of our Lord and Head Jefus Chrift. He had defcribtd l1is exaltation in the words before under this Metaphor, HeJet htm at hu ow11 right hmtd i11 the Heavmly places. Here he goeth on to amplifie and fet him forth, as before under a fimilitude of jitti11g at God's rigbt bmtd, comparing God to a great King, and Chrilt to his eldefi Son that fit– teth in his Throne invefted with that power which God himfelf ihould execute:. But here now in thefe words he fetteth him forth to us by thefe Three things. In the Firft place, by inftancing in the greateft powers, in the mofi excellent things that are; he inftancethin the beft, to ihew that he is fet over all, He is exalted (faith he,) far above all Pri11cipality and Power, Migbt mtd Vomi– nton. In the Second place, left he fhould not have mentioned aU, he addeth, .A11de– vny Name that zsnamed. Thirdly, To lhew that it is as over all, fo every where, he mentioneth both worlds, Not only m thu world, (faith he,) but alfo i11 tbat wbich is to come. Fourthly, He addeth the lownefs of the fubjeCl:ion that all Principality and Power, &c, hath to him, in the the 22. verfe, .A11d bathpt~t (faith he,) all tbings tmder hisfeet, Now then to begin Fidl with this, to lhew you the exaltation of Chri!l: in re– fpeCl: of all pcrfons, degrees of perfons whatfoever, He is exalted fi~r above' I opened that far above in my laft difcourfe, and I will not now repeat any thing. The perfons here they are Principalities mtdPowerr, Might a11d 'lJo. mitJiou. He goeth on here indeed to follow the fimilitude he had begun. He had com· pared God to a great King, Heaven to his Court where he hath his Throne; Je· fus Chri!l to his eldeft Son that d1d ufe to fit in the Throne and no fubjeCl: elfe; And yet thefe Kings had No?l~s, they had Rulers of great place and authority under them m all thm Domm10ns. He prefenteth here Chrift fitting upon the Throne of God the Father as h1s eldeft Son, fo he menrionetl1 all forts of under· rulers, of Nobles that belong to any of his Dominions, Pri11cipalites andPow· ers, Migbt a11dVomi11ion.
