If he would have made it up according to the courfe and way of Speech, he !hould have faid, Look what great Power wrought in Chrifr in railing him up from the dead, wrought in you, in quickning you when y~ were dead in Sins and Trefpaffes: But he mentions not Power, but, God who# rich in Mercy, for the great Love wherrnlith he hath loved 111, evenwhen we were dead in Sin1, hath quicfeted 111. There are three things in this Verfe : 1. He would have them, above all elfe in his Difcourfe, have this in their eye. I. The Repetition, Even when we were dead in Sins. There are three things in thofe words. 1. The Conlideration of the Emphajii put upon this Repetition ; for it is not a bare Sentence of Repetition, but with an emphatical Note and Particle, Even when; as the word v.<Xl implies. ~. The Condition it felf repeated, Dead in Sin1; and that fingled out, •• more properly referring to ~icftning, fo more pertinently to illull:rate that firll: Benefit. . 3· ThePerfonsitisbell:owedupon, [Te] and [We.] J 1. Even : This word ""' here, fome would have to ~e redundant ; others would have it to be [ b11t,] as inv. 4· And fo Grotim, whofe Opinions engaged him to leffen the greatnefs of this De~th jn Sin, that the ~o~e mig~t be giv~n ~o Man's Will in his quickning.
