An Expojition of the Epijlle ~ Faith a~ it believeth to Salvation, it i; not reckoned a~orker, nor doth it look erm.X • upon it felf as fuch, but a meer Receiver, a meer Emptmefs, a meer fir(\ Matter ~ and Chaos the Form whereofis Grace, if! may fo allude. No Grace could have been chof~n in the Heart ofMan, fuitable thus to the Grace that giveth, and to the Gift it felf, as this Grace ofFaith is. And there is nothing in Man that anfwers the Promife : For this Grace bath put it felfout into Promifes ; as the Original lies in the Heart ofGod,fo he bath made a Copy out ofhimfelfin the Promifes, and nothing anfwers this but Faith. And indeed, nothing could have given the intire Glory unto Grace, but only Faith. It is ju!t as a meer Looking-Glafs, when the Sun lliines it is a glorious thing, 0 how glorious is that Looking-Glafs when it lliineth ! But what is the Glory ? It is nothing elfe but the very Sun's !hining on it: fo is Faith, and the Soul believing the Free Grace of God in Chri!t, receiveth Salvation from him. A
