Order'd, That the Prolocutor, the Dean of Canterbury, Archdeacon Ott/eÿ, and Mr. Moor, do attend Mr. Speaker of the Honourable Houle of Commons, and return our humble Thanks to him, and to that molt Honourable Houfe, for the great Favour to the Church, and Convoca- tion, which they have on all occafions been pleafed to exprefs ; and particularly, for the late Regard, which they of themfelves, without Suggeftion, or Solicitation, were pleafed to have to the Privilege of this Houle, in the Cafe of one of our Members, who had the Misfortune to fait 4 under their Difpleafilre,' This was read to Mr. Speaker, at his Houle, November 21, and the fame Day in the Honou- rable Houfe of Commons. Refolved, That this Houfe will, on all occa- fions, affert the juft Rights and Privileges of the ' Lower Houfe of Convocation.' Neal, p. 390. The Number of Petitions that were Pent up to the Committee ofReligion, from all parts of the Country, againft the Clergy, is incredible. Not at all incredible, if we confider the unfair Methods of obtaining Petitions, in thofe Times of Iniquity and Confufion ; of which the Lord .* Cla- rendon has given an Account. Neal, ibid. Such was the Spirit of the Populace, that it was difficult to prevent their outrunning Au- thority, and tearing down, in a tumultuous manner, what they were told was illegally fit up. At St. Sa- viour's, Southwark, the Mob pulled down the Rails round the Communion- Table. * Hiíloryof the Rebellion, Vol. 1. p. , 2 Bishop
