298 Mr. N E A L'S III Vol. of the Neal, p. 506. There was a farther Difcovery of this FaH at the Refloration of King Charles II. when the Marquifs of Antrim, whohad been at the Headof the Rebellion, and whole Eflate had been confifated, finding himfelf like to be excluded by the A8 of Indem- nity, came to London to petition his MajeJly, to exa- mine the Warrants he had atïed upon. Accordingly a Committee of Council was appointed, and the Marquifs produc'd fome Lettersfrom the King, which did not a- mount to full Proof; but in one of them the King writ, that he was not then at leifure, but referr'd himfe f to the ueen's Letter, and laid, that it was all one as if he writ himfelf. ThisGentleman would have fhown himfelffome- what lefs partial, had he diftinguilh'd Times and Farts better. It does not appear, that the Mar- quifs of Antrim had the leaft concern in the Map- ere or firft Infurrec`tion ; nay, the dire& contrary has been prov'd from inconteftable Authorities, by the Reverend * Mr. Tho. Cart, in a Piece which probably Mr. Neal may not have feen, and by confulting of which, he may find every Objeftion he has made upon this Subjeft, fully difprov'd. That the Marquifs of Antrim had a Commifíion from the Ding to join Montrofs in Scotland, in the latter End of the Year 1 643, or beginningof the Year 1644, to give the Scotch Army a diverfion from joining their Fellow- Rebels in England, is readily granted And this is all that the King's Letter produc'd by the t Marquifs proves. Neal, p. 507. The King himfelf writ over to the Duke of Ormond, that he had fo vindicated himfelf, that he mull get him included in the Att of Indemnity. * The Irifh Maßacre fet in a true Light, in Anfwer to Mr. Chandler, a DifTenting Teacher at the Bath.
