That the fais Book of Common- Prayer fhall not remain, or be from henceforth ufed, in any Church, Chapel, or Place of publick Worship, within the Kingdom ' of England, or Dominion ofWales ; and that the ' DireNcry for Publick Worship herein fet forth, fhall be henceforth ufed, purfued, and obferved, according to the true Intent and Meaning of this Ordinance, in all Exercifes of the Publick Wor- ' fhip of God, in this Kingdom of England, and Dominion of Vales.' And by another Ordi- nance 23 Augu, 1645. for putting the Dire<lory in execution, with Penalties for ufing the Book of Common-Prayer ; t ' It is ordained by the laid Lords and Commons, That if any Perlon or ' Perfons whatfoever fhall, at any time or times ' hereafter, ufe,or caufe the aforefaid Book of Coln- ' mon-Prayer to be ufed in any Church, Chapel, ' or publick Place of Worship, or in any private Place or Family, within the Kingdom ofEng- land, or Dominion of Wales, or Port or Town of Berwick ; that then every fuch Perfon fo offending ' therein, fhall for the firft Offence forfeit and pay the Sum of Five Pounds of lawful Englifh Money; ' for the fecond Offence,- the Sum of Ten Pounds; and for the third Offence, fhall fuller one whole Year's Imprifonment, without Bail or Mainprize.' And by the fame Ordinance, every Minifter neg- ledfing the Ufe of the Directory, for every Neg- le& was to forfeit Forty Shillings.
