1641.] LADY BRILLIANA HARLEY. 123 CIX. For my deare sonne Mr. Edward Harley. Deare Ned-The last night I receued your letter by the carrier which you rwite the last weake. I confes I was much joyed to see your hand, but I cannot but yet be sorry that I haue no letter from you this weake, nor from your father. I pray God I may heare well of you : it is my comfort, that in theas days of trubell you make the Lord your defence, and looke vp to Him, whoo goouers all the affairs of the world, and I am confident will bring this, His owne worke to a glorious end. I send this letter by the post of Loudlow, whoo is nwely seet vp ; if you will rwite by him weakely, I will send, if pleas God, for the letters ; for it will be eassyer then to send to Shreawesbury. I have bine ill, as I vse to be sence wens- day. I pray God blles you and giue you wisdome both to walke before God and man. Your most affectinat mother, BRILLIANA HARLEY. Apr: the first, 1641. Brampton Castell. CX. For my deare sonne Mr. Edward Harley. My deare Ned- Your wellcome letter by Mr. Moore I receued the last night. I had longe longed for a letter from you ; the last weake I had only a letter from you, but it was on that had bine rwite the weake before. We must all say, if the Lord dons not apeare in His allmighty power to ouer-rule the actions of men, we may feare woofull dayes. If such dayes should befalle vs, the woo would light on thoos that haue not walked with God, and Gods childeren should only fast of the sorrow of' them. I am sorry for judg Mallet, I wisch he may be so wise as to see his error; but the soyle of pith will hardly be rubed of.
