140 ti LETTERS OF THE CXxVIII. For my deare sonne Mr. Edward Harley. Deare Ned -I thanke for your letter : it was loaded with good Hewes ; so that I may well say it did much cheere me. Your letters are great comforts to me; and tho I want my owne health, yet that your father and you are well makes vp much of mine. I desire to One our gratious God the glory of thos great things that has bine doun in the parlament; that the king has past the 3 bills, in which the high commistion goos downe ; and that they haue proseeded so fare against the bischops. The Lord our God, who can doo great things, I hope will perfect that greate worke. I thanke you for the acts of parlament, and for doctor Dowing booke. I did hope you would haue sent me word this weake when your father had meent to haue come downe, which I longe to heare, and more to see. Your brothers and cosen Smith went on munday last to Wallcot, and so on wensday to Clanuer, wheare they haue a very good chamber, and I hope they will do uery well theare. I thanke God I am reasnabell well, and I roos souner this time out of heed then I vse to doo. Doctor Wright came to see me, and it feell out to be when I keepe my beed. He perswad me to rise, and gaue me some cordiali ; but that night I was something ill, but the next day I was well; and I thanke God this day I have bine out of the gate, but no further; and sence it pleased God I was so well affter riseing, and that it feell out accedentally that doctor Wright came to me, I haue entreated him to be with me the next time Í am ill ; hopeing by Gods mercy to gain some more liberty out of my heed, which I thinke the keeping of it dons me much hurt. I promis meself your prayers. I am glad you haue toold Mr. Gwine, and I thinke it strange that his father has such an estat and will asshure so littell of it inhis elldest sonne. I pray God blles you, as I desire my owne Soule should be bllesed. Your most affectinat mother, BRILLIANA HARLEY. July 16, 1641. Bromton Castell. [1641.
