1642.] LADY BRILLIANA HARLEY. 161 CLIV. For my deare sonne Mr. Edward Harley. My deare Ned, -A short letter will sarue to let you know how Harifordsheare stands, when Mr. Braughton is the bearer of it : thearefore I will say nothing of what is doun abroode, only tell you of your frindes at Brompton, wheare I longe to see you. This day I hard out of Linconscheere: I thank God they are all well: but I see my brother Pelham is not of my minde. I thinke now, my deare sister was taken away that shee might not see that which would haue grefed her harte. Sr William Pelham rwites me word he has giuen vp his liftenatcy and his gooing to Yorke, to the king ; being his saruant, as he rwites me word, and so bound by his oth. Deare Ned, send me word wheather your sister lookes as pale as shee did. I bane not bine well theas 3 dayes, but it is as I vse to be. Your sister Dorrity has bine exceeding ill: shee fell ill about 10 days sence. I was very unwilling to send for any docter, tell shee grwe very ill, and so ill, that I much fearedher; and I sent for docter Wright, whoo went away this morning. I hope now shee will recoruer, tho I still feare her: shee lookes most lamentabell, and is growne weake; but I hope God will be mercifull to her. I hope to send you your shirts shortly. I pray God blles you and presarue you in all safety : and deare Ned, let me heare the truth of thinges, tho it be bade. We heate that the kinge will sommon all that will be for him, to come to him.
