" Same day.-Message from the Lords, by Judge Foster and Judge Mallet " That the Lords do desire a present Conference by Committee of both Houses, concerning a Printed Paper intituled, ' A Declaration or Resolu- tion of the County of Hereford.' " Answer returned by the same messengers :- " That this House will give a present meeting, as is desired. " Sir William Lewis, Sir Rob. Harley, Sir John Evelyn are appointed managers of this conference. "Two constables were called in, Who informed the House, that they were sent by the Justices ofthe Sessions at Newgate with Two Persons that were taken divulging the Printed Resolution of the County of Hereforde. " The Men were called in, and confessed the same ; and that they bought them of one Hamond. " Sir Rob. Harley reports, from the Conference had with the Lords, That the Lords had brought unto them a printed Paper, which is a scan- dalous and infamous Libel in the name of the county of Hereforde, and do desire that this House will join with their Lordships in desiring the Knights that serve for that County to send down to know who in that County will avow the same : And, if any do, that they shall be prosecuted to the utmost, for setting forth such an infamous Libel. " Resolved,-That this is a most scandalous and infamous Paper. " Resolved,-That Jo. Hubbard and Evan Lewis shall be sent back to the Justices of Peace at the Sessions at Newgate, to be there proceeded against according to Law, for publishing an infamous and scandalous Libel. " Ordered, That Sir Rob. Harley do bring into the House To-Morrow Morning Two Letters he received from some of the Gentry of the County of Hereforde. " Resolved,-That Hamon the printer shall be sent for as a Delinquent. " 11 July. Ordered,-That Mr. Venables be sent for forthwith to attend the House, and that he be examined at the Committee appointed for the Defence of the Kingdom concerning the printed Paper of the Resolution of Hereford ; and that Sir Rob. Harley do attend that Committee with those letters he hath received from some Gentlemen of the county of Hereforde.
