226 APPENDIX. 5. That I will not discover the secretts of his Majestyes armyes to the rebels, nor hold any correspondence or intelligence with them. And all designes of theirs against our soveraignes armyes, or for surprizeinge or deliveringe vppe the cittyes of Worcester or Hereford, or of any other his Majestyes forts, I shall truly discover to whom it shall concerne, so soon as ever it comes unto my knowledge. 6. That his Majesties takeinge up of armes for the causes by himselfe so oft declared in print is just and necessary. 7. That I will endeavour all I may to hinder all popular tumults, rise- ings, randevous, meetings, confederancies, and associations of the people, townes, hundreds, and countyes which are not warranted to assemble by his Majesties express commission, or by power derived from him or by vertue of his comissions, and in the sense he meanes it. 8. I detest frommy heart that seditious and trayterous late invented nationall covenant, and I promise never to take it. All these particular articles I vow and promise sincerely to observe without equivocation or mentall reservation. So helpe me God. I doe strictly enjoyne, without exception, all commanders and souldyers, gentry, cittizens, ffree-holders and others within the county and cittye of Herefford to take this protestation, which is to be tendered vnto them by the High Sheriffe and Comissioners of the county, assisted with such a divine as they shall make choice of to that purpose ; and that a scedule of their names who shall refuse to take the same is to be delivered vnto Sir William Bellendene, Comissary-Generall.
