Of CONFORMITY. 101 Scripture, and of Pious and profitable Prayers, an imperfeti and low Difpenfa- tion, when compared with the perfor- mances amongft Tau, which mull: wholly depend upon the preparation, abilities, temper, and prefent difpofition of the Perlons who are to Officiate ? And, Is it more for the honour of God, for the decency of Publick Wor/hip, for the edifi- cation of the Chriflian Church, that a general encouragement fhould be given to this, than such a Liturgy be joined with ? The bell and mofi complete way of determining this, would be, to procure a true Copy of all the Publick Prayers ufed in all the Congregations throughout the whole Land, on any one Lord's Day, by thofe who have thrown off the Ure of the Liturgy; and to compare thefe, with the Service in the Common-Prayer- Book eflablifhed. This would clearly de- monflrate, which is moll for the honour ofGod, and the decency of his Worship; which gives moil occafion to improprie- ties, and irregularities in his Service ; which is, univerfally fpeaking, moll for the true and Cliriffian Edification of the People; the method you have chofen and encouraged, or the imperfer`t difcarded G 3 Liturgy
