And yet your Method tends to Paffion, and Preju- dice, and Refentment ; but can never have the leaít part in making Men pliable and eafy, in difpofing them to recede from any thing , to make the fmalleft Conceffions, or give up a Point of the leaít importance. It is true, that, upon the Suppofition that the Church may be made more perfea, nothing will hinder confideringMen from promoting fuch Alterations as will do it. No un- reafonablenefs, or unaccountable beha- viour, noaggravations, or invectives, ño violenceor heat, in any who differ from them, ought to have fuch an EffeEt upon their Minds, as to render them unwil- ling, or indifpofed to encourage fuch a farther Reformation ; becaufe their failings belong to themfelves , and not to the Caufe in hand, and can make that nei- ther better, nor worfe.
