For when any parti- cular Church is effablifbed by the civil Authority of a Land, Conformity to it is made the exprefs Command of that Au- thority, and is required of all who judge it to be lawful : And Non-conformity in fuch, becomes not only a Neglect of the Peace and Happine[s of Society, but alto an Alf of Difobedience to lawful Authori- ty. The Defign of the Eflabli(bment, could be no other, but that all 'fhould conform to this Church, who can poflii- bly do it with a fafe Confcience : And confequently, the Toleration cannot be fuppofed contrary to the very defign of the Establifhment. But, however that be, our Obligations to confult the Peace, and Concord of Christians, can be daub. ved by no humane Pei-miff-ions ; and onfequently, the Toleration cannot dif folve them. And from both there it follows,, that the Toleration cannot, in the leafi, affect the Duty of confiant Communion with the Churchof England, or excufe you in your Negled of it. VIII.
