( 45) qual Encouragement to all Religious Parties amongff Chrilians : And yet, if the Encouragement be not as equal, as poflìble, I fee not how this Obliga- tion is fatisfied, if there be fuch an Obligation upon us. And we find a- mong{f thofe who fpeak moll of this Catholick Spirit, that it extends nor, in Prauice, generally, to more than two forts of Chrifians ; and this, with a very remarkable, and constant Ine- quality. So little do there Perfons themfelves feem to think themfelves obliged to a juif, and exaa Praaice, of this imagined Duty, or to tie them- felves up to a rigorous Obfervation of it. This, therefore, cannot be includ- ed in the true Notion of that Catholick, and Charitable Spirit, which becomes all Chrifinns becaufe it is a Praaice no where plainly recommended ; and, I had almoft `faid, , utterly impoflìble; and, in the leaff Degree of it, highly diforderly, and the caufe of great In- decencies, and Improprieties, in the Church.
