312 Thesouks efefuall calling toChriíl. enemie, one thatover-powers him,yet beingcon- fident that his cause is good, will bring it about againe, and will not ref' tillhe bath an Squall hea- ring. So faith when, the Lord frownes upon him, yet the heart puts him intint, as it were, and Both expoftulate the caufe with the Lord,Gying,Hath the Lordforgottento begracioue, and will hebeno more intreated ? This expoflulation of the foule that the heart preíi'Lth inupon Godwithall, whenit is upon a goodground,it argues the purfuit of God, that he will not leave till the Lordgive that hee hathengaged himfelfe tobellow. Thusto gather up all,,faithgoes out to the LordJefus Chrifl, and layes hold upon him, layes all the weight upon him, drawsverme from him, as in all theformer particulars. The fifth and !aft thingwherein thegreat worke of relling confits is this; faith leaves the foule with the promife, and after all delires (haply) and all denials, and ab the difcouragements of God; and yet the foule feeth not the way ofGod, but thatGod frownes upon him ; and though God comes not, yet faith leaves theheart with God. This is marvellous needfull, and it muff needsbe thewerkeof faith ; for it is the maine tenour of the workeof the covenant ofgrace, and the co- venant of workes , in the covenant of workes made with Adam, when he faid, doe and live : If Adamhad done that, hee íhould have received conflantaffiffance, andGodwould never havede- nied tohelpe him: but now in the covenant of grace, becaufe it mull bee, and isfree, and that a foule.
